How to Shrink or Expand Your Vintage Snapback for the Perfect Fit

How to Fit and Shape Your Vintage Snapback

You know that feeling when you slide into your favorite pair of sandals after a month or two and they’ve perfectly molded to your feet? Or if you’ve ever played a contact sport and had to fit a mouthguard -- that warm feeling of biting into the rubber that fits your gums and teeth perfectly? Fitting and molding a vintage snapback is just the same. The only difference is that the mouthguard keeps your teeth looking fly while that vintage snapback keeps your dome looking fresh.

Before we go any further, we want you all to know that the snapbacks on our site are one-size-fits-all, and you will most likely not run into fitting problems. But in the case that you do want to stretch-out your vintage snapback a little more, for you big-brained geniuses, or tighten it up a bit to fit snugly on your head, we want to make sure you know what you’re doing.

How to Shrink/Tighten Your Vintage Snapback

Listen up, reader - YOU’RE SPECIAL. AND UNIQUE. And sometimes, so is the shape of your head. This being the case, sometimes your vintage snapback won’t fit the exact way you want it to. As we said, this is rarely a problem and we’ve never received a complaint about this. But on occasion, you might get a hat that’s a little too tight or a little too loose.

The following is how you shrink your vintage snapback to make it fit a little better:

Step 1: Get a spray bottle or something that can dispense minimal amounts of water.

Step 2: Apply a few sprays of water on the areas you want to size up (for the temple area apply at each end of the brim where the cap actually starts).

Step 3: Ask your girl to borrow her blowdryer.

Step 4: Hit the moist spots with the blow dryer on high-heat, gradually applying water as needed.

Step 5: From time-to-time, throw on your vintage snapback to see if it’s the fit you want. If not, repeat step 4 until your satisfied.

And boom, your retro snapback should fit snuggly on your head.

Tightening isn’t your problem? Want to stretch that bad boy out a little more to fit your head? No problem, Snag and Stitch has got you covered.

How to Stretch Out Your Vintage Snapback

Stretching out your snapback is a lot easier, but should be done so carefully, because if you stretch it too much you may not be able to get it back to size even with the previously mentioned steps.

Step 1: Dampen the crown of the snapback with hot water.

Step 2: Find a bowl or pot that resembles your head (cue pothead joke).

Step 3: Place the snapback around the bowl or pot.

Step 4: The snapback will begin to stretch, but make sure to take it off periodically to try on to see if it’s right for you.

How Should My Vintage Snapback Fit?

If you followed all the steps correctly, your snapback should fit on your head snug, just above your ears, enough that it doesn’t come off while your moving and grooving and wide enough so it doesn’t leave a mark or cut off circulation (we don’t want you passing out).

We hope this tutorial has helped you and makes you enjoy rocking our vintage snapbacks that much more! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about our lids, or you’re interested in customizing your own or putting in a wholesale order, don’t hesitate to hit us up.
